Findings from my research methodology

Mobile phones and their effect on society:
Mobile phones allow communication which is free from wires and allows a person to be in contact with work or home from any where in the world. This contact may not always be welcome from a receivers perspective, work may wish to contact an individual outside of working hours and therefore intrude on family life, or family members may try to make contact with them while they are working leading to distractions and possible confrontation.
The question now needs to be asked, “are mobile phones expressions of identity, gadgets of fashion, tools of life or all of these things?” (Manual Castells et al, 2006)
Some believe the use of mobiles by young people may make them so obsessed with their phone that the time they spend on it is contributing to obesity in the young. It may also be replacing some emotional functions previously satisfied by smoking. (Mercer D, 2006)
Technology moves at such a fast pace now, with changes happening constantly, it is possible that this adds to the term “a through away society”.

VARK
This was my way of completing my modules in my first year of doing the HNC.
My least favourite way of learning which was shown by my VARK scores, is group discussions. I like to listen when in a group and only speak when 100% confident that what I have to say will make a difference. I also take notes when in discussions.
Reflection of my learning line
Reflection of my learning line
Looking at my learning line I realise that I have done more than I thought, a positive reflection for me. It was interesting to see how I have continued to learn and train without realising it.
Working at a University made me think that only formal education was considered as learning but on reflection can see that you continue to learn if different ways.
I believe that everyone has a time when they want or need to learn. My priorities when I was younger, was to get a job and save for a home.
Later I had a period of serious ill health and only wanted to concentrate on recovery and making sure I survived for my family.
Now our daughter is now grown up and my husband has changed employment, I thought I would like to gain a formal qualification. I had the offer to move into the position of Systems and Information Assistant which the HNC in Business Information Technology fits perfectly.
I am thoroughly enjoying my learning experience and would love to carry on and get a degree. Who would have thought I would ever have the chance or the inclination!
